Codex Pre-installed & ready to use

OpenAI Codex. Your cloud dev box.

A dedicated VPS with Codex pre-installed. SSH in and let Codex write, test, and ship code on a persistent server — 24/7.

What is Codex

OpenAI's coding agent in your terminal.

Codex is OpenAI's open-source agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal, understands your codebase, and can write code, fix bugs, run commands, and handle multi-step development tasks — all through natural language.

Codex operates in a sandboxed environment, making coordinated edits across your project, running tests, and iterating until things work. Powered by OpenAI's models.

Why hosted

A coding agent needs a persistent environment.

Long-running tasks

Let Codex work on complex refactors, migrations, and multi-file changes without worrying about your laptop closing.

Dedicated resources

Your own VPS with dedicated CPU, RAM, and disk. Codex has room to clone repos, build projects, and run test suites.

Isolated sandbox

Your code stays on your server. SSH key-only access, firewall on, no shared tenancy. Safe to give Codex broad permissions.

Not just Codex. Every BotVPS comes with Node.js, Python, Go, Docker, and Git — so you can also run Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenClaw, Amp, Aider, Augment, Cline, Continue, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Goose, Kilo Code, Roo Code, Windsurf, and any other terminal-based AI agent. Full SSH access means you can install anything.

How it works

Three steps to a coding agent.

1

Pick a plan & deploy

Choose your resources, paste your SSH key, and pay. Your VPS provisions in about 3 minutes with Codex already installed.

2

SSH in & set your key

Set your OPENAI_API_KEY environment variable. That's all the configuration you need.

Run codex

Start coding. Codex reads your project, makes edits, runs tests, and iterates. Use tmux to keep sessions alive.

Use cases

What people build with Codex on BotVPS.

Feature development

Describe what you want. Codex implements it across multiple files, writes tests, and creates a PR.

Bug fixing

Point Codex at a failing test or error log. It traces the issue, applies a fix, and verifies it passes.

Refactoring

Large-scale code migrations, API changes, and architecture refactors that touch dozens of files.

Code exploration

Understand unfamiliar codebases. Codex reads the source, explains architecture, and answers questions.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is Codex?

Codex is OpenAI's open-source agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal and can write code, fix bugs, run commands, search codebases, and perform complex multi-step development tasks through natural language.

Do I need my own API key?

Yes. You bring your own OpenAI API key. This keeps your usage and costs transparent — you pay OpenAI directly for the AI usage. BotVPS only charges for the server infrastructure.

How is this different from running Codex locally?

Running Codex on a VPS gives you a persistent, isolated environment. Long tasks keep running when you close your laptop. You get dedicated resources without competing with your local work. And the isolated sandbox means Codex can operate with broader permissions safely.

Is my code private?

Your code runs on a dedicated VPS that isn't shared with anyone else. Access is SSH key-only with a deny-all firewall. We don't have access to your API keys, code, or conversations with Codex.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. No contracts, no commitments. Delete your VPS from the dashboard anytime. Billing stops immediately.
